Picking the subject

question: 'Are female murderers demonised by the tabloid press? and are these representations different to those of males who commit the same crimes?'

I decided to pick the catagory crime and the media, because its something we hear and read about everyday, especially in the Tabloid press, it seems although there is only ever negative things reported such as crime. I began thinking about the ulitmate crime that is frowned upon and decided this could be murder, especially that of a child. I thought back to previous cases i have read about or heard about in the press and the first person that came into my head was Myra Hindley, not her lover Ian Brady who also carried out the moors muders if anything he had more involvement in it than her.
It then hit me that in cases like this, the woman always gets a harder time than the man with the press, even if they have commited the exact same crime. Guilty or not the woman is always victimised and targeted more than the man. So im going to be researching into this and the reasons behind it, could it be the simple fact it shocks people more because people assume every woman has a motherly instict to protect a child from harm, or could it just be its less common?
